Sometimes it may be tough as a parent to make sure your children are eating correctly. Here are a few ways to reduce fat intake and promote healthy eating:

  • Low-fat or nonfat dairy products

  • Poultry without skin

  • Lean cuts of meats

  • Whole grain breads and cereals

  • Healthy snacks such as fruit and veggies

Also keep in mind that healthy eating habits can be put in place too! Here are a few tips to develop healthy eating habits:

  • Make a wide variety of healthful foods available in the house

  • Encourage your children to eat slowly

  • Eat meals together as a family as often as possible

  • Involve your children in food shopping and preparing meals to obtain hints about their food preferences

  • Plan specific times during the day for snacks

  • Encourage your children to drink more water

  • Make sure your children’s meals outside the home are balanced (school lunch, restaurants, etc.)

  • Pay attention to portion size and ingredients – Read those food labels!

It will be a challenging task to implement every tip at once -- Pick a few to start with and go from there!
